Introduction
Custom Backup uses cookies and similar technologies to ensure the platform operates smoothly, to enable features such as Drills, and to support optional advertising features such as rewarded ads. Non-essential cookies are off by default and require your consent before they are activated.
No personal information is stored in any first-party cookie we set. Third-party advertising partners may use their own cookies subject to your consent.
Cookie Categories
Essential Cookies
Used to operate authentication, platform security, and core website functions. These cannot be disabled.
Examples:
supabase-auth-token— enables secure login and session management.
Functional CookiesAlways on
Required for platform features such as the Drills system (including Lock In) for guest users. Without these cookies, guest drills cannot function. These cookies help us enforce fair usage limits before sign-up. They do not collect personal data.
Examples:
guest_drill_id— stores a randomly generated UUID to track how many Drills (including Lock In) a guest user has attempted. Contains no identifying information.guest_drill_attempts— used server-side to record drill attempts for that UUID.
Advertising Cookies
Used by third-party advertising providers to deliver and measure rewarded ads. These cookies are off by default and are only activated with your explicit consent.
What they do:
- Ad delivery — set by our advertising partner (e.g. Google Ad Manager) to serve rewarded ads.
- Ad measurement — used to track whether a rewarded ad was completed, for fraud prevention and reporting.
- Frequency capping — used to limit how often you see the same ad.
These cookies are not strictly necessary for the platform to function. They are used only with your consent, unless an exemption applies. You can enable or disable them at any time through the cookie consent banner or your account settings.
Personalisation: If you choose to enable personalised ads, advertising cookies may also be used to serve content tailored to your interests. Personalised ads are off by default for all users and are never enabled automatically.
Why We Use Cookies
Essential cookies: Required for authentication, security, and core functionality. Without these, the platform cannot operate.
Functional cookies: We allow guest users to try up to two Drills (including Lock In) without creating an account. Without these cookies, the drill system cannot function for guests. They are strictly necessary for the service you request when starting a drill and cannot be disabled.
Advertising cookies: We and our advertising partners use cookies or similar technologies to deliver rewarded ads and measure their performance. These technologies are not strictly necessary and are used only with your consent.
How Consent Works
When you first visit Custom Backup, you will see a cookie consent banner with the following options:
- Accept All — enables all cookie categories.
- Essential Only — keeps only essential and functional cookies active (both are strictly necessary). Advertising and personalisation cookies are disabled.
- Manage — opens detailed preferences where you can toggle advertising and personalisation individually.
Consent is stored locally on your device and, if you are signed in, synced to your account for consistency across devices.
Changing your preferences: You can change your cookie preferences at any time by clicking “Manage Cookies” in the site footer or through your account settings. Withdrawing consent does not affect the lawfulness of processing based on consent before its withdrawal.
Data Storage & Privacy
First-party cookies set by Custom Backup (such as guest_drill_id) cannot identify you personally and are not linked to real-world identity unless you create an account.
Third-party advertising cookies are set by our ad partners and are governed by their respective privacy policies. You may delete these cookies at any time in your browser settings.
Managing Cookies
You can control cookies in two ways:
- Our consent banner — use the cookie preferences panel to toggle categories on or off. Reopen it at any time via your settings.
- Browser settings — most browsers allow you to block or delete cookies. Note that blocking essential cookies may prevent Custom Backup from working properly.
