Quizlet Imports is a new feature that lets you migrate your existing Quizlet study sets to Custom Backup instantly. If you've spent hours building flashcards on Quizlet, you don't need to rebuild them from scratch.

Simply copy your Quizlet flashcards (term/definition pairs), paste them into Custom Studio (our study set editor), and we'll automatically transform them into Custom Backup cards with all our advanced features: Typing questions, multiple-choice questions (MCQs), distractor generation, and spaced repetition tracking.

How It Works

    Export from Quizlet

    Go to your Quizlet study set. Click on the "..." menu and select "Export". Copy your flashcards in the format: Term    Definition (separated by tab or comma).

    Open Custom Studio

    In Custom Backup, navigate to Custom Steps and create a new step. Open it in Custom Studio (your card editor).

    Paste into Notes Panel

    In Custom Studio, find the Notes Panel and paste your Quizlet export directly into it. The Notes Panel now accepts Quizlet exports and will intelligently extract and enhance your flashcards.

    Generate & Review

    Click "CB Create" from the expanded Notes Panel, choose your preferred card count, and generate. Custom Backup will intelligently extract your Quizlet cards and transform them into dual-format Term/Definition and Question/Answer pairs, complete with multiple choice distractor variants. Review, edit, and save.

    Start Learning

    Click "Practice as Level" in the Tools section, and you'll be able to start studying with spaced repetition. Watch your progress build over time.

Supported Formats

Custom Backup accepts Quizlet exports in these formats:

  • • Tab-separated: Term   Definition
  • • Comma-separated: Term,Definition
  • • Between-separated: Term  between  Definition

Each line becomes one card pair. Make sure each line has exactly two parts: Term and Definition.

Limitations & Notes

What Quizlet Imports CANNOT Do

  • • Images: Quizlet images are not imported due to restrictions. You'll need to re-add images manually in Custom Studio.
  • • Audio: Audio files from Quizlet are not imported. Custom Backup doesn't currently support audio flashcards.
  • • Multiple-choice options: Quizlet's MCQ options are not imported. Custom Backup generates new distractors using AI instead.
  • • Study progress: Your Quizlet learning progress (stars, mastery levels) doesn't carry over. You'll start fresh with Custom Backup's spaced repetition.
  • • Sets with more than 30 cards: For performance reasons, we recommend importing sets with under 30 card pairs. Larger sets may require splitting.

Best Practices

  • • Review before saving: After import, scan your cards for formatting issues or errors.
  • • Add images manually: If your Quizlet set relied heavily on images, you'll have to re-add those images in Custom Studio.
  • • Refine definitions: Quizlet definitions may be short. Consider expanding them for better context.
  • • Test distractors: Custom Backup's AI-generated distractors are smart, but double-check they make sense for your subject.
