Verification is how you prove your study set is complete, accurate, and ready for the world. It's the gateway to publishing, and the key to unlocking refills.
What Is Verification?
Verification is Custom Backup's quality check for study sets. Before you can publish a study set for others to use, you must verify every card by answering it correctly twice.
The Core Idea
If you can't answer your own flashcards correctly, how can you expect others to learn from them? Verification ensures that every published study set has been tested by its creator.
This means no broken cards, no typos in answers, and no ambiguous questions slip through. When you download a verified study set from another user, you know it works.
How It Works

Create Your Study Set
Build your flashcards in Custom Studio using CB Create, or manual entry. Add terms, definitions, questions, and answers.

Start Verification Mode
Click the checkmark button in Practice mode. This creates a special queue of all unverified cards.

Answer Each Card Correctly — Twice
Each card tracks a verification counter (0/2 → 1/2 → 2/2). Answer correctly to increment the counter. Wrong answers don't decrease it, but you need two correct answers total to verify.

Completion
When all cards reach 2/2, your study set is automatically marked as verified. You'll see a toast notification: "All cards verified! Level ready for publishing."

Why Verify?
Quality Assurance
Verification catches typos, incorrect answers, and ambiguous questions before they reach other learners. Every published set is battle-tested.
Community Trust
When users download a verified study set, they know the creator has personally tested every card. This builds trust across the platform.
Publishing Gate
Verification is required before you can publish. No shortcuts. This ensures the Online Study Sets library maintains high standards.
Custom Distinctions Eligibility
Only verified and published study sets can be submitted for Custom Distinctions (Gold, Silver, Bronze awards).
What About Edits?
If you edit a card after verifying it (changing the term, definition, question, or answer), the verification counter for that card resets to 0/2. This ensures edited content is re-verified before republishing.

Once your study set is verified, you unlock powerful features:
Publish to Online Study Sets
Share your study set with the Custom Backup community. Choose a license (CC-BY or All Rights Reserved), add tags, and make it discoverable to thousands of learners.
Submit for Custom Distinctions
Apply for Gold, Silver, or Bronze distinctions. Distinguished study sets get featured placement and extra visibility in the library.
Share with Others
Generate a share link to your published study set. When others add it to their collection, you might be eligible for refills (see below).
Earn CB Create Refills (Free & Plus)
Free and Plus users have the opportunity to refill their monthly CB Create allowance by contributing quality study sets to the community. Here's how it works:

Rules & Limits
- • Daily limit: Complete up to 1 refill session per day
- • One per set: Each study set can trigger only one refill, ever
- • Different user: The person who adds your set must be a different user (not you)
- • Device check: We may temporarily limit CB Create if unusual activity is detected.
